As students approach the middle of Year 9, they are required to make some key decisions regarding their future studies. This is an incredibly exciting time for both parents and students alike, as for the first time students have the opportunity to shape their education, tailoring it towards a particular career, aspiration or passion. At Park Academy West London, we are absolutely committed to providing a curriculum that is broad, balanced and meets the needs of all of our students.
On this page you will find resources to support your child in making their option choices for Key Stage 4. Making option choices is an important time for all Year 9 students and we want to provide all students with the information they need to make informed choices. All Year 9 students will receive options packs in the spring term with lots of information to help them select the best courses for them. There will be a virtual year 9 options evening held in the spring term allowing students and families an opportunity to make informed decisions about their subject choices. A video clip will be placed on the Year 9 Google Classroom explaining the options process in full detail.
A large part of the curriculum is compulsory for all students but there is also an element of choice which means that students can shape their own learning programme in Key Stage 4 according to their interests and future education and career aspirations. GCSE and vocational qualifications are available; the style of each of these courses is very different. This is one of the most important moments in your academic career. Take the time to find out as much as possible about all the courses on offer. Your Academic Mentor will be there to support you through the Options process to ensure you make the best possible decisions for your future.
